On September 18, 2023, the UAE EWEC invited developers and a consortium of developers to submit expressions of interest (EOI) for the development of the Khazna Photovoltaic Independent Power Generation Project (IPP) with all system include modules, ground mount,Solar Panel Mounting Accessories,Inverter and others in the Al Khazna area of ABU Dhabi, with EOI submissions closing at 12:00 noon BST on October 2, 2023.

It is reported that the development of the project is in line with the EWEC’s strategic plan to increase the construction of renewable energy generation facilities and increase the total solar power generation to 7.3GW by 2030.

The Khazna photovoltaic power generation project is a greenfield photovoltaic power generation project with a power generation capacity of 1500MW, involving the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance and ownership of the power station and related infrastructure. Greenfield PV system’s Solar Mounting System mainly use ground screws,C channel steel, steel purlins, U shaped bracket, etc.

When fully operational, the project, which is close to the size of the Al Dhafra Photovoltaic Generator and the Al Ajban Photovoltaic System, will generate enough electricity to power about 160,000 homes and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 2.4 million metric tons per year, equivalent to taking about 470,000 cars off the road.

EWEC is adding an average of 1GW of solar capacity per year over the next decade, and currently plans to bring on stream at least two more 1500MW solar PV projects.

The project will follow ABU Dhabi’s Independent power Generation Project program, with the developer entering into a long-term power purchase agreement with EWEC as the sole power purchaser.

Following the review of the expressions of interest, the EWEC will issue Qualification Requirements (RFQ) to move the tender to the next stage. The Qualification Requirements will provide more details on the project, the pre-qualification criteria and the tendering process. Following the inquiry, a tender will be issued to qualified bidders after regulatory approval of the project.
